Oxon U11 Girls win National TitleThe Oxfordshire Under 11 girls team came first in the closest County final in memory today, with a thrilling finish seeing Oxon edging ahead by half a point with the last game to finish. Fittingly, it was Oxon captain, Anna Wang, who won this decisive game as the team overtook Sussex in the final minutes. Top performers for Oxfordshire, with 100% scores, were Chantelle Foster, Hannah Vickers, Sif Fugger, Jemima Gasson, Katherine Klemperer and Alicia Cordon, who all received extra prizes during the celebrations in the team room afterwards. And of course everyone got a monkey sticker for each game they won. :-) Oxfordshire hosted the event this year, and thanks go to everyone who helped on the day - with admin, registration, computing, results, snackbar, moving tables and clearing up! Full results and Oxfordshire results are available thanks to Roger Thetford's computing skills. |

Anna Wang - British Under 8 ChampionCongratulations to Anna Wang, who finished a point clear of the field by scoring 5.5/6 in the British U8 Championship. Anna is thus the overall champion - with a separate boys' title being awarded in her wake. Later in the year, she and sister Maria will both be representing England in the World Youth Championships. Congratulations also to Chantelle Foster, who shared the British U10 Girls' title with a score of 4/7. British U8 Crosstable British U10 crosstable Update: The Oxford Mail have run a story on Anna and Maria, though they got their factual wires crossed a bit and have put the answer to the question "how was Anna selected for England" as the reason she's British U8 champion. They also concatenated various comments together, so some of them are slightly out of context. But overall it's a decent article. There were also features about Anna on "South Today" and "Thames Valley Today", the BBC and ITV local news programs. Link: http://www.bcfservices.org.uk/livechess/british/2007/U8.htm |
