9th Oxford FIDE Rapidplay

Venue: Kennington Village Hall, Kennington Road, Oxford, OX1 5PG, direct buses from Radley and Oxford Railway Stations, parking either at the hall (limited to 25 cars) or off-street nearby

Format: 5 rounds of rapid play games

Time control: 25 minutes starting time per player on the clock + 10 second increment per move completed

Sections (based on ECF rating): Open, Under 1800, Under 1550, U1200 (this section is for juniors only)

Rating: the Open, U1800 and U1550 are FIDE and ECF rated, the U1200 is ECF rated only

Oxfordshire LJCC Qualifier (U8, U10 and U12 only)

Oxfordshire Junior Chess are running a 1-day ECF-rated junior tournament on Sunday 22nd November, which counts as a qualifying tournament for the London Junior Chess Championships held in December.

In addition to qualifying, there are trophies for top placings, top boy and girl plus performance, based on final entries. All players receive a certificate from the LJCC.

The tournament will take place at Cheney School in Headington (OX3 7QH), starting at 9.45am.

U10s and U12s will play six rounds each, with 20 minutes per player on the clock at the start and a 10 second addition per move completed. Prize giving for these sections is expected to be at 4.30pm.

U8s will play six rounds each, with 15 minutes per player on the clock at the start and a 5 second addition per move completed. Prize giving for these sections is expected to be at 2pm.

Oxfordshire County Junior Chess Tournament

Oxfordshire Junior Chess is pleased to announce that the annual county junior chess tournament will take place on the weekend of 2nd / 3rd Jan 2027 at Cumnor Primary School. It is a well-attended and friendly tournament that welcomes beginners through to our county's most experienced chess juniors. For many, the tournament acts as an opening for selection to the county teams and kickstarts a love of over-the- board, competitive chess.

The U9 section takes place on Sat 2nd Jan, the U11 section on Sun 3rd Jan, and the U13 / U15 / U18 Championship spans both days of the weekend. The online entry form link is given below from which full tournament information and rules can be accessed.
